Phobic (Phoebe Reede: The Untold Story #2)

Sometimes starting over is the only choice.

Broken-hearted and looking for revenge, Phoebe Reede heads back to the US to take up a new challenge. Only, when she discovers who her teammate and rival is, the challenge might prove too great.

While she knew life away from home wouldn’t be easy, she never expected to be faced with an unpleasant surprise from her ex-boyfriend, or to be as drawn to him as ever. She needs to remain professional and push aside her feelings for him, but will she let someone else steal her heart away instead?

What will it take to prove she’s not afraid to take the risk?

Phobic (Phoebe Reede: The Untold Story #2)Phobic by Michelle Irwin

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them – kat***

Well – I hit the ground running literally with this book – yep I was walking and reading ( oh how dangerous – I know but luckily where I live is quite quiet so nobody to walk into and not many cars – I did stop while crossing the road!)

Having finished book 1 I couldn’t wait until I got back so I read the book while walking to work, and agh having to put it down while I was working nearly killed me.

Phoebe was left with her heart in tatters at the end of book 1 and then when she is given a chance to head to the US and drive in the Stock Car racing circuit. Her plan is to show Beau that he messed with the wrong Aussie chick, she will show him who is the boss on the circuit, but when she arrives at her new team’s headquarters she gets a shock.

With her heart guarded she tries to be brave, but Beau treats her as if she is the villain in their failed relationship, making it hard to get along with the team – dare she put her life in the hands of people who think her a princess who bought her way into the team?

With one friendly face in the crowd, young apprentice Xavier, Phoebe tries to rise above their viciousness and callous remarks, but soon realises that being a woman in a man’s world can be quite an uphill battle.

With sexual harassment, old fashioned ideals and the sight of Beau’s 5-month pregnant fiancee the next year will prove to be the toughest fight she has had.

Phoebe was a great character, rising above the challenges set, she tries to forget Beau, letting Xavier get close, it doesn’t feel the same as the passion with Beau, but he seems sweet and safe…

But all is not what it seems, Phoebe soon finds out that she has trusted the wrong people, and that someone she called family has betrayed her in the worst way.

Beau – well I wanted to hit him from here to next Tuesday, but by the end of the book, I was sobbing for him. But that is all I can say without spoiling this series for new readers.

The action is mostly in the pits, not much track time in this book, but there are a few major twists and turns that will keep you glued until you finish it once you start the book – I was up till the wee hours when I got home from work, BUT I will Warn you – this book will leave you with a book hangover, with a cliffhanger which will make you want to hunt down ms Irwin and demand she writes Beastly now! – but she assured me we will only have to wait till early next year.

I will be hounding her so she sticks to that promise.

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.

Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes paranormal and fantasy romance.
